Teams of dragon boats, similar to long canoes, train for weeks for the contests in this day, not only in China, but also in other Asian countries with Chinese populations. 龙舟节（中秋节）是为了纪念战国时期楚国伟大的爱国诗人屈原，他为了警示楚王防备暴戾的秦国，自投汨罗江而死。为避免他的尸首为鱼类蚕食，人们摇着船，将事先准备好的用竹叶包好的糯米团撒入他投水的江中。时至今日，人们仍然保持着吃粽子的习惯，成队的龙舟有点像长的独木舟，经过数周的训练就是为了要在这天一决高下，不仅仅在中国，在亚洲其他国家华裔相对集中的地方都会举办龙舟比赛。

My First Day on Campus

My First Day on Campus It was the first day I went to campus during three days for freshmen to register. I took the campus bus and then reached soon. As soon as I went off the bus, I cooked many a sophomore were enthusiastic receiving freshmen at reception places. They were shouting their own school name------Petrol project School, Resources and Environment Project School, Machinery School, etc. I walked straight to my school’s treatment spot following their voice. After singed something concerning affairs, one of them did me a favor to my department and sent me to my dormitory. Then he gave me some advice to how to arrange. And them we said goodbye to each other. He was so busy that he went away in a hurry. After a moment, a guy who was familiar with came into dormitory. He was the one who took the same bus with me. We introduced one another, and he became my first friend on campus. Not long after had lunch, I accompanied with my roommate to go through ass the formalities, while I would register the next day for some other reasons. On the way to the reception office of my school, a lake located beside the eatery that attracted my attention. There were clean water, blue sky reflected in the lake water, fish and birds. Bushes beside paths prevented people waling on them from burning. From the board at the edge of it I know it named Longjin Lake. A beautiful name with beautiful views------flowers were blooming on the Lover Island, bees were busy to take honey, and butterflies were dancing around the flowers groups. Breezes blew lightly, and I can smell perfume of flowers. I felt cool by seeing all of the wonderful and peaceful tourist attractions though the weather is so hot. The island was simply a park, which made me imagine the spring of our campus------a colorful world. It was the most beautiful campus I had ever seen. With tired of taking bus and going through all formalities, I relieved by appreciating the pretty campus, breathing the fresh air, taking leisure stroll on campus, learning more about the new place. I was more excited than exhausted that day. Dusk was falling, the rays of sunset reflected in the lake was so enthralling.

A Roommate After seriously considering I found there was nobody I wanted to write about. At last I picked up one of my roommates around myself to describe The first time that I met him was on the way to my campus. He looked like not that smart, with a pair of thick glasses, round head and short hair. From his expression of his eyes I can see that his characteristic is pessimistic and aggressive. He went with his father to the campus. Compared with his father, he looked so gloom, but his father was easy-going from talking with him I can see. That’s his first impression told me that I wouldn’t get well with him. During the military drill time, there happened a piece of unhappy matter between us for which we almost stroke each other. The fact of it is this, he was behind of my row, and he kicked my leg once in drill time. I didn’t know whether he was on purpose or not. But at that very time I lost my temper, but then I felt that’s unnecessary due to my past struggle experience. I kept reasonable and the wave was subsided at last. However, from then on we estranged ourselves from each other. Every time when we studied in our dormitory, he always was bothersome if he cannot go through his homework favoring or that could be said” everything should be easy for him” , “but it’s never impossible” , I affirmed, he would broke the tranquil environment by cursing these or those affairs which he thought were lions in the path. Maybe he did those on purpose, or this is his bad habit I cannot stand. What is more, very to my faint, he would express his happiness by singing songs, whistling or playing football around out room here and there. These were nothing. But his voice was so special that I couldn’t accept, and his style of performance was childish enough. So I escaped from it and went to the Study Building to learn by myself leaving the person alone to do everything, to grouch, whatever he liked to do. I wouldn’t care.

Words and stories In the 1930s, a song "Brother Can You Spare a Dime" was very popular in the United States. It was the time of the Big Depression. The song had meaning for many people who had lost their jobs. A dime is a piece of money whose value is one tenth of a dollar. Today a dime dose not buy much, but it was different in the 1930s. A dime sometimes meant the difference between eating and starving. The American economy today is much better. Yet, many workers are concerned about losing their jobs as companies reorganize. Americans have special ways of talking about economic troubles. People in business may say they feel the pinch, or they may say they are up against it, or if things are really bad, they may say they have to throw in the towel. A pinch is painful pressure. To feel the pinch is to suffer painful pressure involving money. The expression "feel the pinch" has been used since the sixteenth century. The famous English writer William Shakespeare wrote something very close to this in his great play "King Lear". King Lear says he would accept necessities` sharp pinch. He means he would have to do without many of the things he always had. Much later, the Times of London newspaper used this expression about bad economic times during the 1860s. It said so much money having been spent, all classes felt the pinch. Worse than feeling the pinch is being up against it. The saying means to be in a lot of trouble. Word expert James Roger says the word yet in the saying can mean any and all difficulties. He says the saying became popular in United States and Canada in the late nineteenth century. Writer George Aid used it in a book called "Arty". He wrote "I saw I was up against it." Sometimes the business` studies up against it will have to throw in the towel. This means to accept defeat or surrender. Throwing in the towel may mean that a company will have to declare bankruptcy. The company will have to take legal steps to let people know it has no money to pay its debts. Word expert Charls Founk says an 1874 publication called The Slang Dictionary explains throwing in the towel. It says the words probably came from the sport of boxing or prize fighting. The book says the saying began because a competitor’s face was cleaned with a cloth towel or other material. When a boxer’s towel was thrown, it meant he was admitting defeat. before decade ,i was weak and not fit,so i always fall ill. after decade ,i am healthy and strong . before decade,i was a small boy. after decade ,i become mature young man. before decade ,i didn`t konw english at all. after decade ,i have mastered many english words . before decade ,i can play with my fellow without any care of the world . after decade ,i must work hard for myself as well as for my parents. before decade ,i hadn`t saw car and highway after decade ,there isn`t curious at least around you life . before decade,i had no annoyance,didn`t kown how to kill time. after decade ,time for me is so limit ,i have so many things to do ,som many things to think. before decade ,my mother would punished me for my false .i was controled by her. after decade ,i come into campus without my parents beside me,my parents never hit me ,but i must control myself.. before decade ,when i was punished,i just stand it , after decade ,my parents never hit me ,less than control me . before decade ,i thought my parents was not likely to care about me , after decade,my parents often call me ,i can feel their missing of me ! how about your decade ?

now i `ll introduce a girl who is like this ,don`t hyperactive to konw who she is i think after read my composition,you will kown her well ! it`s a coincidence that i met her at the first time and i suppose she is a just graduate .i got the real overcome that my sense is almost correct. when i went into my classroom, i saw a young man standing in the front of classroom,he `s saying something to the students behind the desk .why ? was he our monitor,or did these for he was announce something else to us ? he is thin ,with a little glasses,but looked like learned, so i picked a set and set myself , now i can see ,not just i glance at he , he `s on a jean,a lether show,and a jacket. from his voice i read that he is energetic,actve,and had many many the same language with us , at the frist class ,he give our the comfidence of learning english ,he reclled his studying in university,so vivid ,in the shadow of those statement,we seemed to dream our future, it`s always sunshine,always happy ,always gaining . he established his respect toward us ,for all of us were so pity comparing with his english level ,and he let us open the eyereach. we can felt that`s important to learn it well. his accent of PUTONGHUA was not so clear ,less than understanded his englsih expression. he impressed on me that at the first several courses ,he let us try try again ,try to express in english ,try your best ,run your mind,but no "sorry ".he said that if you want to do well in you englsih learning ,you must catch all of chances to practice it ,and after graduated,the skill of writting and speaking are the most important capability during your future working or stepping in the society to communicate with others,for instance,give a application when you find a job ,or do something translation in your future job,etc. he was very easy-going, geniality and a little bit humor ,everytime we had some question to consult to he ,no matter our life or learning probloms ,he would offer us a satisfied reply. there `re some time all of us were positve for the mark of our monthly exam. when we did`t take the courses seriously. he did`t lose temper to us but try to make us releive and maintain our emotion and distract our attention on something fun .he would talked the history ,the entertaiment of current ,and movies ,novels ,during his super chat.we felt comfortable more or less i should say. time is gone, on the popurse of reformination of our college english teach, our instructor would be change for another new ones. it touched my heart that is at the last class of ours. in the special but normal day ,our teacher fell ill, we didn`t konw the reason ,he just say he had a cold , so all of us study by ourslves inthe classroom, nothing to do ,nothing to say , he went to the office ,and go bace ,and went to again,
